For Slumdog Millionaire, Boyle won the Academy Award for Best Director. In 2012, Boyle was the artistic director for Isles of Wonder, the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, which was widely praised as a "masterpiece" and "a love letter to Britain".
